MANILA, Philippines – Educational products provider Diwa Learning Systems recently announced the launching of a new mobile education solution that will enable online access of the company’s learning resources using the Acer Iconia W500 tablet.

To provide clients with a single mobile education solution, Diwa partnered with e-learning solution and service provider Marshall Cavendish Online of Singapore in developing “classroom in a tablet,” an exclusive windows-based application on the Acer Iconia tablet.

Through this application, student and teacher subscribers will be able to access all of Diwa’s e-learning systems including Genyo (genyo.com.ph), electronic textbooks, digital classroom magazines, and online portal (diwalearningtown.com).

Academic resources will encompass lesson plans, tutorials, activities, and exercises for the five core primary and secondary subjects: Science, Math, English, Filipino, and Araling Panlipunan (Social Studies).

The company is currently making extensive efforts to make its traditionally printed learning resources including textbooks and magazines available online for “classroom in a tablet,” Diwa executive director Jose Maria T. Policarpio told Interaksyon.com.

With new technologies, “defining the way teachers teach and learners learn, this mobile education system is Diwa’s solution to the growing need for effective ways of delivering content,” Policarpio said.

Policarpio also told Interaksyon.com that price and distribution would be customized according to the requirements and financial capacities of schools.

With the introduction of this new mobile e-learning solution, Policarpio perceives the elimination of expensive computer laboratories in schools. “This will mean no more heavy trolley bags and backpacks” for students. They “can have uninterrupted learning even when classes are suspended” because “classroom in a tablet has all the necessary content they need in textbooks, classroom magazines, and multimedia e-learning while keeping them connected to the web 24/7.”

Teachers will also gain benefits because there will be no need for “thick folders and bulky envelopes of test papers, lesson plans, and even class records,” Policarpio said.

Acer Iconia W500 is a Windows-based Wi-Fi-ready Personal Computer tablet with 10.1-inch touch-screen that comes with a separate keyboard dock.

When fitted together, the tablet’s screen panel and keyboard form a computer system similar to a traditional laptop.

Policarpio told Interaksyon.com, “there is no official partnership between Diwa and Acer. However, the Acer Iconia tablet is our device of choice because it is the most appropriate device for Diwa’s e-learning solution for the moment.”

Agnes Neria-Espino, marketing manager of Acer Philippines told Interaksyon.com that their company “is pleased to be part of Diwa Learning System Inc’s empowering project. Reading to learn has been made more convenient with mobile productivity tools as the Acer Iconia Tab loaded with ebooks.”

“We salute Diwa on this project. We hope to see more companies embracing new products and technologies that help lessen workload, provide easier ways of doing things and generally make life simpler,” Neria-Espino said.
