Diwa Learning Systems Inc., together with its corporate social responsibility arm, Bato Balani Foundation Inc. (BBFI), and partner Batangas Lakelands, received an Award of Merit at the 21st Philippine Quill Awards held on 27 August 2026 at Solaire Resort.
The organizations were recognized under Division 1: Communication Management, Category 15: Corporate Social Responsibility for their collaborative environmental initiative, “Bato Balani 45: Planting Greener Tomorrows.”
Leading the delegation was Brian Vincent Belen, PhD, chairman of Diwa Learning Systems Inc. and President of Bato Balani Foundation Inc., who joined representatives from Diwa, BBFI, and Batangas Lakelands on stage to accept the award during the gala ceremony. The team joined business leaders, corporate communicators, and public relations professionals from across the country in celebrating campaigns that demonstrate excellence in strategic communication and meaningful community impact.
Planting Greener Tomorrows
To celebrate the 45th anniversary of Bato Balani for Science and Technology magazine and the 35th anniversary of Bato Balani Foundation, “Bato Balani 45: Planting Greener Tomorrows” was created to promote the care and conservation of native Philippine trees.
As part of the initiative, 50 geotagged native hardwood trees were planted in a protected sanctuary at Batangas Lakelands, with a five-year maintenance guarantee to support their long-term growth.
The project also introduced the “Tree Angels” model, bringing together employees, school leaders, and administrators to help care for the trees. Through this initiative, an anniversary celebration became a lasting commitment to environmental stewardship and a greener future.
Communication with purpose
The recognition at the Philippine Quill Awards highlights how strategic communication can help turn corporate milestones into opportunities for meaningful action.
Organized by the International Association of Business Communicators (IABC) Philippines, the Philippine Quill Awards recognizes outstanding communication programs that demonstrate excellence in strategic planning, execution, and results.
The Award of Merit recognizes the shared efforts of Diwa, BBFI, and Batangas Lakelands to connect education, community, and environmental action.
“Bato Balani 45: Planting Greener Tomorrows” shows that milestones can be an opportunity to create something lasting. Through the trees planted and the people involved in caring for them, the initiative continues Diwa and BBFI’s commitment to building a greener future.
