Immaculate Heart of Mary College Empowers Educators Through Cybersecurity Seminar Series

As technology advances, so do the cyber threats that accompany it. In response, Immaculate Heart of Mary College–Parañaque (IHMC) provided its educators and staff with timely insights, updated knowledge, and practical strategies to address emerging cybersecurity concerns through a two-day cybersecurity learning program held on 29 and 30 May 2026. The program aimed to empower participants to protect not only their students in digital learning environments but also their own accounts, personal data, and digital identities.

The first day featured a seminar on Cybersecurity Awareness, facilitated by information technology expert Mr. Adrian Par. The session examined current cyber threats, including phishing attacks, identity theft, data breaches, and online scams that increasingly target both educational institutions and individual users.

Participants gained a deeper understanding of how cybercriminals exploit digital vulnerabilities and learned proactive measures to strengthen account security, safeguard sensitive information, and identify suspicious online activities before they escalate into security incidents.

The learning continued on the second day through the webinar "Teach Smart, Stay Secure," facilitated by Ms. Florence Robles, Program Chair of the College of Education at First Asia Institute of Technology and Humanities (FAITH) Colleges. The session focused on cultivating responsible digital practices and strengthening digital resilience in both professional and personal settings.

The webinar highlighted the critical role educators play as models of responsible online behavior and digital citizenship. As teachers increasingly rely on digital platforms for instruction, communication, and assessment, maintaining a secure digital presence has become more important than ever.

More than a professional development activity, the two-day program served as a timely reminder that continuous learning is essential in an increasingly connected world. By staying informed about emerging technology issues and cybersecurity risks, educators are better equipped to foster safe online learning environments while safeguarding their own digital identities.

Through initiatives such as these, IHMC continues to champion #DigitalCitizenship, ensuring that its educators remain informed, vigilant, and prepared to navigate the ever-changing digital landscape with confidence and responsibility.

The cybersecurity learning program was conducted as part of IHMC's continuing partnership with Genyo e-Learning. A long-time subscriber of the platform, the institution recently renewed its multi-year agreement, reaffirming its commitment to leveraging technology-enhanced learning and professional development opportunities that support both educators and learners.
