Special education demands an extraordinary level of emotional and mental energy, yet the educators giving so much of themselves are rarely given the space to pour back into their own cups. On 25 July 2026, Special Education (SPED) teachers and administrators from Cradle of Learners, Inc. (COL) and St. Francis Integrated Arts School, Inc. (SFIASI) gathered at SFIASI in Quezon City to address a critical, often-overlooked necessity: their own well-being. Led by Professor Eden G. Suplente, an educator and humanitarian advocate, the Stress Management Seminar reframed self-care not as a luxury, but as an essential pillar of professional longevity.
Burnout in high-empathy professions rarely stems from a lack of passion; it arises when daily demands outpace the opportunity to process them. The session opened with a reflective workshop, Appreciating Achievements in Life, which shifted participants' focus toward celebrating quiet, everyday victories. Professor Suplente then guided educators through a deep dive into the choices that drew them to teaching, encouraging them to reconnect with their foundational "why" to ground their present challenges in a broader sense of purpose.
To tackle the root causes of exhaustion, teachers engaged in open dialogue to name their specific workplace stressors before participating in a therapeutic Write and Reflect exercise to process and release that tension. Rather than leaving educators with mere inspiration, the seminar concluded with a concrete commitment, prompting each participant to choose one actionable habit to safeguard their mental health moving forward.
When institutions prioritize the emotional wellness of their staff, the ripple effect reaches every student in the classroom. By creating a safe environment to reflect, process, and support one another, COL and SFIASI proved that caring for educators is one of the most effective ways to elevate student learning—a mission proudly supported through the ongoing collaboration of Diwa Learning Systems Inc. and Bato Balani Foundation Inc.
