In a dedicated effort to continually refine classroom practices and align with the latest teaching innovations, Pasig Catholic College (PCC) successfully hosted "A Day with the Author" on 09 June 2026. The specialized seminar-workshop gathered the institution's Filipino faculty members for a highly collaborative three-hour afternoon session at the PCC campus aimed at elevating the standards of Filipino language and literature instruction.

The professional development initiative was made possible through PCC's partnership with Diwa Learning Systems Inc. and Bato Balani Foundation Inc. (BBFI), underscoring the institution's commitment to providing its educators with top-tier academic resources and mentorship opportunities.

Expert Insights on the Modern Curriculum

The session was facilitated by Mr. Lester Q. Guanzon, an accomplished educator, author and expert in the field of Filipino instruction. Mr. Guanzon holds a Bachelor of Secondary Education major in Filipino from the Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Pasig and a Master of Arts in Filipino, major in Literature, from the Polytechnic University of the Philippines. Bringing years of specialized experience, Mr. Guanzon provided highly relevant, field-tested expertise to the attending PCC faculty.

During the workshop, Mr. Guanzon shared updated knowledge regarding recent shifts and structural adjustments within the national curriculum. Well-versed in modern educational trends, he provided the teachers with practical methodologies and teaching tips designed to make language learning and literary appreciation more engaging and contextually accurate for contemporary learners.

Hands-On Workshop on Problem-Based Approaches

Going beyond theoretical lectures, the training featured interactive workshop segments where PCC teachers actively applied modern teaching frameworks. Mr. Guanzon guided the participants through the intricacies of the Problem-Based Learning (PBL) approach, demonstrating how to transition classrooms from traditional memorization to critical, real-world problem-solving.

Furthermore, the attendees underwent practical exercises on designing and assessing Performance-Based Tasks (PETA), ensuring that classroom evaluations effectively mirror students' actual capabilities and competencies.

The participating faculty highly praised the overall execution of the seminar, noting that the actionable strategies and curriculum updates they received would immediately enrich their lesson planning and classroom execution. By prioritizing advanced training for its educators, Pasig Catholic College continues to lead the way in fostering academic excellence and delivering high-quality Filipino education.
