Science exposition helps kids discover new ways of learning

In recent years, education technology has made great strides in increasing students’ enthusiasm and elevating their learning experience.

One of the technologies that have been picking up steam in the past years is robotics. In the Philippines, robotics has gradually made its way from being a specialized activity in school science clubs to being integrated into the academic curriculum. With applications in science, information and communication technology, mathematics, and many other fields of study, robotics is becoming an essential part of innovation.

To help schools jumpstart their robotics programs, Diwa Learning Systems Inc (Diwa) gave robotics starter kits and demonstrations to various education institutions all over the country in the past year. Using the starter kits, schools can teach students how to develop and program basic robots.

Four schools in particular have risen to the challenge by creating innovative robocar designs. Immaculate Heart of Mary College in Quezon City, FAITH Catholic School in Batangas, and Colegio de San Francisco Javier and Saint Joseph College Maasin from Leyte are all set to showcase their creations at the Genyo DIY Robotics Workshop and Robocar Design Exposition.

The workshop aims to help educators understand robotics better and learn how they can effectively teach robotics to their students.

Putting the fun in learning

Genyo DIY Robotics Workshop and Robocar Design Exposition will be part of the 2019 Diwa Innovation Lab, a science exposition that will bring new technologies within reach of families to boost their interest for Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics (STEAM).

Aside from robotics, the expo will feature drones, virtual reality, meteorology tools, and science investigatory projects.

Headlining the 2019 Diwa Innovation Lab is the national finals of Diwa Pasiklaban sa Paaralan, the first and only ICT-integrated traveling quiz show in the country. Ten grade school and ten junior high school finalists from schools across the Philippines will compete against each other on topics under Science, Math, Languages, Literature, and General Information.

The finals of the Bato Balani Science Investigatory Project SY 2018-2019 will also be held at the expo. The top four schools with the best science investigatory projects for the school year will present and defend their output, as well as put their projects on exhibit.

Rounding out the expo is a Drone 101 session that will be open for kids and adults who want to learn more about drones and their functions.

The largest educational kids’ fair

The 2019 Diwa Innovation Lab will be held at SmartKids Asia Philippines, the country’s largest educational kids’ fair.

As the country’s leading provider of K-to-12 educational resources, Diwa aims to bring their innovative educational programs to a wider audience. Families attending the fair can visit the Diwa booth where parents and kids alike can get a chance to learn more about robotics and experience flying a drone. They also get to sample firsthand how virtual reality can be used in schools.

Robocar and science investigatory project exhibits will be in full display at the Diwa booth. Parents and kids can also compete in various family games and trivia quizzes that feature the different educational product offerings of Diwa.

SmartKids Asia Philippines will be on January 26 to 27, 2019 at Halls 1 and 2 of the SMX Convention Center Manila. Visit the SmartKids Asia Philippines Facebook page for more event details and updates (www.facebook.com/smartkidsasiaphilippines).

The process of building and testing a robot involves a high-stakes cycle of monitoring, identifying errors, and managing limited resources—much like the gameplay found in Skribbl io.

In the game, you aren't just a security guard; you are a manager of a complex, failing system. You must monitor camera feeds (analogous to checking sensor data) and manage a depleting power supply (like a robot’s battery life) while predicting the movements of unpredictable entities.

Programs like Diwa’s starter kits make innovation more accessible and help students build critical thinking and problem-solving skills early on. In a similar way, interactive platforms like Veck IO show how engaging, game-based experiences can motivate learners, making complex concepts feel more approachable and fun.

This was a genuinely inspiring article. You did a great job explaining how hands-on science activities can spark curiosity and confidence in young learners. I recently read a similar educational discussion on a review blog linked with https://grandoaksorthodontics.com/, and it offered an interesting parallel on how interactive learning benefits children across disciplines. Very encouraging content.
