Zamboanga school administers final exams online

Updated: Mar 25, 2021

In the midst of the enhanced community quarantine being implemented all over the country, Saint Columban College in Pagadian City, Zamboanga del Sur turned to e-learning for the final examinations of their junior high school students.

With the help of Genyo e-Learning (Genyo), a fully integrated online learning management system (LMS) created by Diwa Learning Systems Inc, the Saint Columban College Junior High School Department (SCC-JHS) was able to conduct examinations across all subject areas as scheduled.

“When our principal ordered that the final exam of our grade 7 to grade 9 students will be online since we were not allowed to cater to them in school, without any doubt, we thought about using Genyo,” Jane Antiola, and English and Values Education teacher in SCC-JHS, relayed about their experience.

Through the quiz features of the platform, SCC-JHS teachers created their exams and employed the use of time limits and special permissions for an orderly exam-taking.

“Since I always use Genyo as part of my teaching-learning process, this pandemic made us appreciate Genyo for giving us a way to [have a complete set of scores to] compute students’ final grades,” shares Antiola.

Learning persists in digital

Meanwhile, in South Luzon, teachers have also opted to use their LMS to create lesson packages that include drills, game-based activities, and videos.

Liceo de San Antonio teacher Maricris Ademe recognizes the benefits of an e-learning platform. “As a teacher, it is a great tool to get the student’s attention to motivate them to study harder. Through instructional materials like these, it is easier for us to impart knowledge to our students.”

Students are also finding the LMS helpful during these times. Not only do they keep boredom away by keeping their minds stimulated while they are on home quarantine, they also appreciate the way e-learning keeps them connected.

“It serves as a communication channel between students and teachers,” says Erlyn De Castro, a student from Padre Vicente Garcia Memorial Academy, Inc. (PVGMA, Inc.) in Batangas. “It makes us feel that there is still a teacher that’s guiding us.”

SCC-JHS, Liceo de San Antonio, and PVGMA, Inc are just some of the schools utilizing Genyo e-Learning to continue with their operations amidst the enhanced community quarantine.

Jane Antiola is grateful for the option. “This experience made me realize that home quarantine cannot stop the learning of young minds.”
